You built a world out of Legos
on a Saturday
The basement was transformed
a red and blue and yellow kingdom
All the pieces locking into place
all the edges sharp against
the voices upstairs, the noises upstairs, the chaos upstairs

You built a world in a doll house
or a model train
The rules were up to you
a wild and true and vivid kingdom
Nobody could tell you what to do
all the colors spilling out like
rainbows inside the palette you find
in bright childmind

We made sand castles
We made the world's best mud pies
armed with scissors and paste
